Yale Tries an Unconventional Campus Recruitment Video

Posted: under college, online video, university, video, viral.

Not sure why Yale would even need to go to such lengths to promote itself (seeing as they reject 92% of all applicants), but I give them credit for shaking up the status quo of campus tours. After all, getting a prospective student to visit the campus is considered a huge opportunity, and a school’s best chance at conversion. maybe this is just a tongue in cheek way of saying they can have fun at Yale and are just like everyone else…even though they are clearly not (and may, in fact, even be veiling a slight elitism).

Here is an excellent use of online video to create a user experience that may be a deciding factor in choosing where to spend a winter vacation. the videos allow the viewer to scroll up, down and all around to fully engage in the activity.

Not only do the videos show the great skiing, they also display the fine dining and lodging options as well.

You can view all of their different resort experiences here:

The Latest from Ad:Tech Conference in NYC on Futue of Marketing

Posted: under advertising, internet marketing, media, mobile, online video, search.

I did not have a chance to attend this year’s conference, but as usual, it is filled with prognosticators waxing on future trends. I certainly agree with one brief snippet proclaiming the following growth areas: social, video and mobile…I would still add to that search, and interactive TV (including TV on the web via TV Everywhere).

Canadian Online Video Usage Highest in World

Posted: under Canadian research, online video.

With high broadband penetration, it makes sense that Candians spend 10 hours per month viewing online video. The average online video was 4.1 minutes in length, up nearly 25% from the previous year’s 3.3-minute average.

“Canada’s high broadband penetration and tech-savvy internet users make it an optimal environment for online video to flourish,” said Bryan Segal, VP of sales, comScore Canada. “The combined forces of reach, high engagement and ’sight, sound and motion’ make online video a particularly attractive brand-building vehicle for online advertisers.”

Makes sense to me. We’ve been trying a few different video ad services with good initial success as far as engagement metrics – our ads have an average of about 18 seconds interaction. That’s certainly enough to make a positive impression.

There is a major hurdle with marketing to Canadians in the fact that they are very protective of their privacy. Trying to get them to give us their email address through travel contest entries etc. has been difficult. I would like to try creating a “Insiders Tips” to the Adirondacks in order to create a value exchange for these finicky Canadian travelers. We shall see.
