Copper Mt Resort has an interesting offer that we’ve seen here in the East. Show you other mountain season pass and get a $39 lift ticket at Copper. Good promotion, and a clever and engaging spot as well (the “honey, honey, honey” part is very disruptive!).
We’ve seen it happening for years. The ski industry continues to cater to the well-heeled baby boomer demographic who they know will both take several winter trips and can also travel mid-week and spend a good portion of money in nice accommodations. The average age of a skier is a 44 year old male who skis an average of eight times per winter and takes one overnight ski trip. The problem is that after 55 (sorry, Tom) their skier visits drop like a stone due to health issues etc. So, who do we target now? Well, they’ve actually said it is nine-year-old girls who have never skied or ridden before. That’s right. They have the power to control Mom’s purse strings, and they can guide a family’s leisure time. In theory. The trend has been that men make the decisions for a winter ski vacation. Regardless, new ideas must be taken into consideration now, or we’ll have a heck of a time filling the slopes. That, in addition to global warming issues – but that’s for another posting! http://industryreport.mountainnews.com/2009/05/nsaa_2009_all_about_those_boom.shtml#more
